In 1976, his first feature-length film, Io sono un autarchico, made him a new name in Italian cinema. The film was presented at the Venice International Film Festival. Moretti’s professional career began after the release of Ecce Bombo (1978), a film that brought him recognition, and caused a sensation at the Cannes Film Festival. The hero of the picture is a lost ideals, a broken young man living in his illusory closed world. The theme of rejection of the surrounding world became one of the main in the new Italian cinema in the 80s. In subsequent works “Golden Dreams” (“Sogni d’oro”, 1981), “Bianca” (“Bianca”, 1983), “The Mass is Over” (“La messa e finita”, 1985), this theme was further developed, until in 1989 the “Red Goal” (“Palombella Rossa”), debunking the last illusions of the European intellectual, flaunting Marxist ideas. In his films, Moretti acts not only as a director, but also as an actor and screenwriter, he recently founded the company Sakerfilm, which produces new Italian films. She refuses to talk to journalists, avoids TV and hates stereotypes. The film “Golden Diary” (“Caro Diario” 1995) received the Grand Prix at the Cannes International Film Festival, and released a few years later “Room of the Son” (“La stanza del figlio”, 2001) won the highest award of the festival – “Golden Palm”.
