In everything else, the film also absolutely corresponds to the canons of the genre - an adventure-criminal plot with a slight touch of absurdity. The two heroes are friends involuntarily and absolutely opposite in all characteristics of the personality. Romantic-tragic hero, killer Ruby, who wants to avenge the murder of his beloved and cheerful jackass Quentin, mentally retarded robber-loser, good-natured and talkative. Together, as you might expect, they run from a lunatic house, and each tries to fulfill their dream: one, Ruby – to kill the leader of the mafia (whose wife was murdered friend Ruby), and the other – to open a joint business with a newly acquired “friend”, a bistro. What happens next, it is easy to guess - the "cool" character is constantly mistaken, and the dorky Quentin, due to remarkable physical strength and fantastic luck, suddenly, time after time, saves him.
As a comedy, the film has quite taken place - despite the seemingly general stamping, it is surprisingly funny and full of good jokes. Particularly remembered are the patients of the crazy house, the list of the abducted by the main characters from the store and the crown phrase of Quentin: “I am not an idiot, I am Quentin.”
As for the meaning, it is that kindness is better than a cunning mind, for this mind sometimes thinks so much that devils get sick. There is some truth to this: “smartness” and “adulthood” often push people into meaningless, sometimes cruel, actions. It's no better to be a fool. But this film is just a comedy and does not claim to be a deep disclosure of the opposition of cunning and honesty, intellectuality and naturalness - for this there is already Forrest Gump.
Well, a couple of words about the distributors – they, as always, distinguished themselves, replacing the appropriate in meaning, but rude from their point of view, the name “Shut up!” by... the name of another comedy of the same director. The number 2, however, to add to the conscience, than made only worse - because I could easily pass by this film, deciding that already watched it.
Bottom line: a good typical French comedy with crazy characters, chases and, of course, great jokes. The right film to cheer up and have a good time.
