“If your eye seduces you, tear it out. If your hand tempts you, cut it off. If your tongue tempts you, bite it off. And if your mind seduces you, become a Catholic. Heinrich Heine
The film won the Golden Palm in 1978 in Cannes.
After watching, a mosaic developed. This author's statement turned out, in my opinion, with a religious pedal touch against the background of the household of the peasant way of life. Filmed in semi-documentary manner with deliberate detachment
Director, operator, screenwriter in one person from moralizing notes. I can feel it. Smooth and harmonious cinema with its unique decor of historical border and in the spirit of Catholicism. Futurist atmosphere. Simple, but at the same time very capacious in the fundamental base - Bach's music, emphasizing the bright frame of the film. I see only one drawback: there are scenes, the author’s idea ... of whom the stiffness and certain refinement of the Life of ordinary people too covers, leading me to the idea that this is a sophisticated orthodoxy.
Overall, the film makes an impression. Simplicity in the full sense of the word is well emphasized both in terms of revealing the characters' characters and in the final conclusion.
I recommend it. 👓
