Prestigation — that says it all. Christopher Nolan has recently been one of my favorite directors. All the four films I’ve seen, I really liked them. But his last two works were particularly impressive: The Dark Knight and The Prestige. If Batman Begins did seem a bit long to me, it was too long and mostly straight forward. "Remember" on the contrary too flashed all sorts of different plot twists, which is also not always good. Of course not in this case, but still. Too abstruse too bad.
In "The Prestige" all the best qualities of these films
are connected just brilliantly.
Two magicians, Robert and Alfred, work in the same team and sit in the hall to go on stage during the performance and tie the knot to the assistant (who is Robert's wife). But at one of the performances, Alfred tied the knot too tight, as a result of which Robert's wife suffocated under water, and that's all. The end of friendship, the beginning of hostility.
Literally in the first scene, during the show of a simple trick with a bird, the whole principle of the film is told. The first part of the trick, it's kind of a tie. The magician should warm up the audience so that they show interest in the performance. This is the story of the death of his wife. The second part is the trick itself. In the movie, it's most of the time. It goes from about 25 minutes to 100 minutes. And the third part is prestige itself. The most interesting part of the show. The
film itself is the focus.
In this case, it would be logical to assume that the film is worth watching only because of the final minutes, but no. The story is so multifaceted that the “set” and “focus” and of course the “prestige”, which, as you can guess, became the best part of the film, they are all three very interesting. But if the first two are completely worldly, which is why the film turns into a kind of dramatic thriller, then the last part of the film is already turning into mysticism.
Strange to say, but the duo Jackman-Bale turned out just great. If I had any doubts about Bale's acting ability. Shortly before that, I watched the movie “Train to Yuma” where it proved itself in all its glory. I was a little worried about Jackman. Still, his role was more serious, and screen time was more. But, nevertheless, the role coped well. I also liked the actor who played Tesla. The role of women is very important.
I would especially like to mention the operator’s work. I haven't seen such beautiful angles in a long time. Especially when Hugh Jackman's character bowed under the stage, it was so cool. And in many other ways. So just bravo.
I would like to tell you a little bit about the ending of the film. It is immediately clear that the climax of the whole performance will be excellent. Anyway, that's what happened. Minimum fantasy (although, without it, too, did not do), maximum realism, in general, as I like. And not too tense. And the way Nolan screwed up in "Remember", then a couple of days in a stupor went. Nope. It's different. Everything is very clear and clear, and, of course, cool.
Prestige is a great movie. Drama in the style of a thriller, fiction in the style of mysticism, everything is intertwined here. I would not say that it is a huge artistic value, there is nothing revolutionary here. But if you take all the individual aspects and episodes of this film, then everything turns into pluses, so this film is one of my favorite thrillers. The only drawback for many may be that if you watch and learn the feature of the film once, then the second time the Prestige will not be interesting to watch. But this rule does not apply to me personally.
I've seen the movie three times already, and not once did knowing the ending stop me from getting high. Original
