"Window at court", version 2007... With the director of this film, D.J. Caruso is not familiar, I have not seen any of his films, Shia LaBeouf is not perceived as an actor at all, he just finished me off with the second Transformers, only one thing interested in this film - the plot ...
Before the car crash that killed his father, Cale and his family's life was a suburban paradise: a happy family living in a beautiful two-story house in the bosom of nature. However, after the death of his father, life changed. And when one of Cale's schoolteachers makes a tactless joke about his father, Cale will answer him in a way that will end up in court. He is put under house arrest for three months. He is bored with boredom, does not know what to do. And then he starts to look...
I might have liked this movie, I might even have recognized it as a local masterpiece, had I not been a fan of Hitchcock and his 1954 film The Window. The plot is almost entirely borrowed from the classic thriller starring James Stewart, with the exception of some completely unimportant details. And the most interesting thing is that the director even sometimes copes with the burden of responsibility placed on him. It’s not bad, it’s real, or I’ll think of it. But still the central branch is completely copied. But, nevertheless, if I really like that movie, then I should like the script of it very much. This is exactly what happened. Even despite the banal and quite predictable ending, despite the completely unnecessary love line, without which the film would look much more serious. Because of this, all the problems of the film begin, everything does not look serious, and even the intimidating look of David Morse does not do its job. Automatically, a film from the category of serious films goes into the class of a teenage thriller, perhaps as Caruso intended it to be available to a younger audience, and they would follow the developments with interest.
Although, for most people, what I am saying here does not make any sense, and I am sure that most of those who have seen the film “Paranoia” do not even suspect the existence of “Rear Window” and to them this plot would seem very original.
I'm not going to talk much about the cast. David Morse is always cool. He's a good villain. Shia LaBeouf... What can I say about him? Of course, better than in transformers, but still somehow childish, even in the most extreme situations, his face did not express natural fear, but somehow he did not fit all this surrounding atmosphere.
I would say I liked the movie. If I hadn’t watched the movie, I would have loved it. The story is not original, but it is still good. And some events made you tense with excitement. The director in this film collected all the best from all the thrillers, but, alas, implemented it very carelessly, which, again, many episodes seemed too naive. But for fans of action-packed modern thrillers, I think it will do. Original
