Matt Craven was born on November 10, 1956 in Ontario, Canada. The boy did not remember his father, as he died immediately after his birth. His mother, along with half-year-old Matt and his older sister, left for their hometown of San Catarina. Matt's first childhood passion was sports. He loved to play hockey in the winter and baseball in the summer. School was easy for him and his teachers were proud of him. Matt's mother had a small income-generating business, but it took a serious hit over time and Matt had to drop out of school to earn a living. All this seemed temporary difficulties, but, alas, he never returned to school. He had to work as a firefighter, a repairman, a loader on a ship, a truck driver, and a handyman. Soon the mother’s affairs recovered, but Matt did not want to return to school.
After leaving his parents' home, Matt Craven built the Canadian National Railway, and in the mid-seventies went on a trip to Europe. But three months later, he came back and took up newspapers with job ads again. In one of them, he caught the eye of information about auditioning for the role in the production of Dracula. Before deciding to take such a step, he went to a performance in the theater and came home under a huge impression, deciding that acting is his fate. Going to the casting, he got the role of Dracula. And that was the beginning of his long journey in theater and on screen.
In 1979, he made his film debut in the comedy Meatballs by Ivan Reitman. The young actor was immediately noticed, and proposals were showered with hail. By the end of the 80s, he had more than a dozen films, including
"Happy birthday to me" "Aluminum Men", "Palais piano" and several series.
Over the years, Matt’s fame and popularity grew from film to film. One after another, there are pictures of famous directors, where he plays with the most popular actors: “Crimson Tide”, “Crash”, “Conspirators”. In 2000, the actor had the opportunity to work with Alec Baldwin and Brian Cox in the creation of Yves Simomno historical drama “Nuremberg”. In the same year, Alan Parker’s crime drama “The Life of David Gale” with Matt Craven was released, and in 2006 he was again invited to his picture by Tony Scott – this time another action movie “Deja vu” was shot. Among the latest works of the actor is Michael Mann’s film Johnny D. about the legendary bank robber John Dillinger.
Matt Craven is married to Sally Craven, they have two children, and their actor considers his greatest success in life.
