Barnum Brothers and Bailey I want to see as many Oscar-winning films as possible, and this film, in addition to the main statuette, received an Oscar for best screenplay. These nominations are very honorable, but I did not like the idea of the film very much.
Brad is a circus boss. To save his “greatest show in the world,” he recruits Sebastian, one of the world’s most famous aerial gymnasts. And just so it happened that he had to take the place of Brad’s beloved, of course she was against it. Because of this, after long negotiations, Brad decided to arrange Sebastian and Holly a paired performance.
The film is very boring and monotonous. One of the weakest Academy Award winners in its history. Although, in my opinion, this script is not completely cinematic, the director still managed to bring it to the screen. This is all very predictable. Naturally, the viewer will be bored at some circus performances (which occupy a good two-thirds of the film), so the screenwriter came up with behind-the-scenes affairs. Of course, they are in any organization, and in the circus. Therefore, Sebastian (naturally the director found this role handsome) is trying with all his might to repel Brad’s girlfriend, who at first just hated him, but then naturally softened to him. I will not tell you further, but the thinking viewer has probably guessed what should happen next.
According to the acting, it can be said that it was not terrible, but it did not stand out. Which happens almost always in movies with extras. The circus stunts in the air were performed well, but it is clear that they were performed by professional stuntmen.
As I said, the film is weak, one of the worst Oscar winners, but I didn’t have much hope for it, so I wasn’t really upset. If I had my will, I would have given the main statuette that year to the movie Exactly at Noon, which is five goals higher than this creation. Once again, I was convinced that circus and cinema are not compatible. If theatricality on the screen is still acceptable, then the bar is already too bent. Original
