The film turned out to be Ozonovsky and at the same time not too characteristic for him. Firstly, it turned out that this is a remake of Ernst Lubitsch’s film Interrupted Lullaby (according to the description of the original, I did not understand why it was a lullaby in that title), rather, however, corrected and supplemented. Secondly, this is a classic melodrama, which is also not too familiar for Ozone, shot very qualitatively, almost black and white, the color appears only where the main character begins to experience some positive emotions and feelings, which visually makes a very favorable impression. The actors, apart from Pierre Nine and Johan von Bülow, are completely unknown to me, but they played well. The story itself is common for melodrama - a Frenchman comes to Germany to the grave of his alleged German friend (in fact, he is no friend to him) and meets his bride and family. The post-war mutual hostility and hostility of the Germans and the French are shown very straightforwardly, although quite reliably. The family of the deceased German and his bride are simply exceptionally wonderful, however, the bride will then take on a couple of sins, including the sin of lying, for good reasons, but the priest will forgive her this sin. It would have been all right, but it would not have been a happy ending, even though he had asked for it (and in the original it was, but Ozon decided not to). Pacifism, the former, as they say, the main in the original, is also visible here, the crime of the war is declared, and almost everyone in it has lost someone. The film is very chaste. But there is something that did not like, somewhat artificial look some storylines (although she met in life with rare coincidences, nevertheless) - and one and the other violinist, although one amateur, the second professional, the main victim - Franz, another, who will be discussed in the film - François, a little theatrical looks singing hymns in a cafe, the picture of Manet "Suicide" passes through the line and is even present in the room allocated to the heroine, etc. So everything seems to be good, but I can’t say that the film hurt me much, although its merits are obvious to me, but I probably didn’t have enough drama, everything was very beautiful and smooth.
