What I love about film adaptations is that they almost always have a good story. This film was no exception. An unusual and thoughtful world, an interesting story, the logical behavior of the characters - that's what you can praise him for. For the most part, this is the merit of a literary source, but the film has its own positive aspects. Such sides can be attributed to suspense. Of course, it can not be called ideal - at times it is interrupted, lost in the gear of events, but, despite this, it copes with its main task quite well. A rare horror movie can make me stare so hard at the screen.
Another thing to applaud is the visual. Both computer graphics and camera work are excellent. Monsters regularly frighten, ghosts beautifully turn into butterflies, and clouds shyly turn red at sunset. Thank you very much for these clouds. I love the beautiful sky in movies, there is such a weakness.
The acting would be beautiful if not for one flaw – the main character. When he plays some feelings, actions or whatever, he's great, there's no words. But when it comes to the point where he has to look at something meaningfully and strangely... In general, he does not get a strange look. It's kind of too playful and stupid. But that's not very obvious.
Overall, I liked the film. Interesting, sometimes scary, sometimes sad, it is full of unexpected moments, which compares favorably with the usual stamped Hollywood. I can only be surprised at the low rating.
