I know who killed me
The story of two female destinies, intertwined with the death of an important mafia cone, tells of attempts to escape from the pursuers, digging for the truth. The alleged outcome can both surprise and seem immediately obvious, and therefore such a criminal thriller should not be expected in the form of intricate intrigue, but rather just watch the story told and empathize with the heroines. In the center is an 11-year-old girl who ran away from home and helps her beaten prostitute, demonstrating the humanity of the lower classes of society. In the confrontation, the son who is tormented by the loss of his father, who sent all his devoted sixes to capture the girls, and decides to firmly deal with those responsible for the death of his own father, whose bloody corpse, along with the surroundings, gives out something in the spirit of “I know who killed me”, only he does not give out more accurate hints at all the reasons, and they are not needed in principle at once, much more interesting it will be to reduce this line during the plot, getting acquainted with the characters and watching their adventures.
The urgency of the problems of the street does not seem to subside for many decades. It's been done a lot before, it's being filmed a lot now. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much, and in this case we are faced with a thriller for once. Even despite the fact that here under the final tense will skyrocket, and the viewer will be about twenty minutes tormented by rich emotional scenes, the video series itself will not be anything worthy of attention.
The murder, although bloody, is demonstrated by such jerks-flashbacks that it will not be possible to consider anything there except stop frames. Action is not available, since the atmosphere and suspense here is the main focus of the narrative, and any visual highlight of the film is also deprived. Georgia Groom is not Charlotte Gainsbourg or Brooke Shields to be naked in public at the age of 13, Lorraine Stanley is not Nicole Kidman or Monica Belluchi to work wonders of acting and delight at the same time with erotic pastel scenes, and thus both central themes: the theme of prostitution and the topic of pedophilia are sluggish, completely undisclosed, and not submitted as sharply as it was in “Goodbye, baby, goodbye” and in “Children from Zoo station”, because the dramatic story itself is not written about the street life, and the difficult. About brothels made “Pretty Child”, about an independent minor there is “Girl living down the alley”, and about the adventures of two prostitutes killing men there is “Monster” with Christina Ricci, so why repeat?! Taking a topical topic, the authors decided to go down the winding road of originality.
Well, did not lose on this part – the thriller from the film really turned out. The film is interesting and tense, where everything goes on increasing, without a single sagging. There is no empty scene or dialogue about anything. Everything is precisely verified, brought to perfection by a calibrated scenario, and suspense will grow to its culmination in geometric progression, making you nervous, pour out sweat and almost beat in hysteria. But here's the problem, looking to the end - you do not want to buy such a movie in the collection. It's really good, but it might just lack basic logic to watch twice. When you know the finale, when there are no shocking twists that can turn the idea of the plot every time again and again, there are no important minute details, following which it is interesting to discover something new, then there will be no such strong tension as it was during the first viewing. Such a movie will be recommended to many, but hardly agree to make them company when watching and certainly not consider such a disc a good gift even for fans of the genre.
At the same time, among the category of one-time thrillers, this one stands out for its special power and dynamics of the narrative. He lacks stars from the sky, but all he has is trying to give good heroes with all his might. And even it seems that Sam Spruwell tries even more than the two main characters to drag the audience’s attention, and that much more important – the audience’s emotions, on his antagonist character, causing even more nerves during the viewing.
Perhaps such a film would one day not hurt a stellar remake, if suddenly Hollywood will be interested in such a production, if they reveal their full R-rated potential, leaving unchanged all the plot details from beginning to end, except that they introduced something even more additional and stronger into the plot. But this is abstract and at the level of personal fantasies of everyone, and in the end we have what we have. “From London to Brighton” is an incredibly intense and very good thriller, recommended for viewing, but not claiming high expectations and a place in the heart. Just look, I recommend it.
