In 1986, Stevens was able to set a record, which was listed in the Guinness Book of Records. He spent 107 days and nights in a glass cage with 36 of Africa’s most venomous snakes in order to draw public attention to the extinction of African gorillas and raise funds for their protection. On the 96th day, Stevens was bitten by a cobra, but he refused to leave the cage and was treated in place. Literally on his last breath, the Snake man lasted another 10 days, and only 107 days left the cage.
