Tess Gerritsen was born in 1952 in San Diego, California, where the future writer spent her childhood. Her father owned a Chinese restaurant.
It is likely that Tess’ literary abilities passed on from her maternal great-grandfather, who was a famous poet in China. In her youth, Tess was very interested in the natural sciences, especially biology. When the moment came to determine the future profession, Tess did not hesitate to choose her favorite occupation. At Standfort University, she received a bachelor’s degree in anthropology, and in 1979, a doctor’s degree, graduating from the University of California in San Francisco. Tess went to Honolulu as a therapist, where she started her own practice with her husband (also a doctor).
The thought of writing the book came to Tess when she left medical practice for a while in connection with the birth of a child. In 1987, she published the novel Call After Midnight. It was the first of her eight novels to be written in a romantic thriller genre.
Tess Gerritsen achieved real success in 1996, when, after listening to her literary agent, she decided to write a book about her medical experience. The first medical thriller, telling about illegal organ transplants, Harvest, on the one hand, brought the writer a stunning success, and on the other - caused sharp criticism from colleagues-doctors. Especially protested one association of transplant doctors, which demanded to change the text, and also appealed to the film company Paramount, which by that time had acquired the rights to film the novel, with the requirements not to shoot the planned film.
Today, Tess Gerritsen lives with his family in the small town of Camden in Maine and devotes himself entirely to literary activities and the upbringing of his sons. The author of such chilling soul and blood medical thrillers as “Ice cold”, “Mephisto Club”, “Surgeon”, “Sinner” is fond of gardening and likes to play the violin.
