The debut of the young actor took place in the film “Treat with Care” in 1977, but the role of Fornication did not bring him popularity. The success of the actor a year later brought the role of Daniel Simpson in the comedy Menagerie. After that, the young actor was noticed by the producers, and Bruce got the role of Brian Ferguson in the horror film The Hand. The film was released in 1981.

In 1983, the actor brilliantly played the role of Mike Harley in the Mike Nichols drama Silkwood. The film was based on real events at a plutonium processing plant. Together with the young actor, the roles in the film were performed by Meryl Streep, and Kurt Russell.
