Valdemar Kalinin, son of Ilya and Eudokia, was born on May 30, 1946 in Vitebsk.
Here he graduated from high school in 1964. After studying at the Tver Pedagogical Institute, he worked as a teacher of English and German in Vyshny Volochka. Active military service took place in the airborne troops. For 19 years he headed the office at the Vitebsk Regional Institute of Teacher Improvement. In 1957, Valdemar Kalinin published his poem in Belarusian for the first time. He was published in various periodicals and books on gypsy topics in England, France, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic, Latvia, Russia and Belarus.
Member of the Belarusian, English and International Roma Pen Clubs. Laureate of the International Hiroshima Prize (Sweden) "For Peace and Cultural Development" and the Literary Award "Romany Award" (Budapest, 2003).
