George Gulia was born on March 14, 1913 in Abkhazia. The son of the Abkhaz poet Dmitry Iosifovich Gulia, an educator and initiator of Abkhazian literature. Fame brought the writer trilogy "Friends from Saken" (1954) about the life of a mountainous Abkhazian village and historical novels - "Pharaoh Akhenaton", "Man from Athens", "Sulla", "The Tale of Omar Khayam". Laureate of the USSR State Prize (1949).
