Born in 1947. He studied mathematics and philosophy at Leningrad University. From 1965 to 1971 he worked as a researcher in the Department of Structural and Applied Linguistics of Moscow State University. In 1981 he emigrated to Germany. Writer, publicist, art theorist, associate professor at the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Münster. One of the most authoritative interpreters of modern Russian culture in Europe. Lives in Cologne.
