Born in Moscow. Graduated from the Moscow Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. He was one of the leading translators of English-language poetry, mainly of the XX century (Eliot, Frost, etc.). In addition, from the mid-50s he wrote “in the table” his own poems and prose. The first publication of Sergeyev-writer took place in 1993, in the journal "Rodnik". In 1996 he was awarded the Booker Prize for the novel "Album for stamps". He died tragically in 1998.
