Bukovsky Vladimir Konstantinovich was born on December 30, 1942 in the Bashkir ASSR, the city of Belebey. His father is a well-known Soviet journalist and writer Konstantin Bukovsky, but Vladimir was raised only by his mother.
The boy studied in Moscow, where his family lived after returning from the evacuation. At the age of 14, he heard Khrushchev’s report on Stalin’s crimes and became an ardent opponent of communist ideology.
In 1959, Vladimir’s first conflict with the authorities took place, because of his participation in the publication of a banned magazine, he was expelled from school, so he continued to receive education in evening school.
In 1960, the future writer became one of the youngest organizers of youth meetings in the center of Moscow, for which he was subjected to a search, during which he found an essay on the democratization of the Komsomol. This document was defined by investigators as “thesis about the collapse of the Komsomol”. At this time, Bukovsky studied at Moscow University at the Faculty of Biology and Soil, but he was not allowed to the session, and then completely expelled.
After that, Vladimir Bukovsky was repeatedly subjected to arrests, years of imprisonment and exile. Years later, he applied for political asylum from the British government, where he settled, got a job, and then citizenship. However, he did not rest on this, continuing to speak at political meetings, give press conferences and interviews. In 2007, he became a candidate for president of the Russian Federation from the democratic opposition in the 2008 elections.
In addition to violent political activity, Bukovsky during his life wrote many works: “Golden Echelon”, “Moscow Process”, “And the Wind Returns”, “Unsent Letter”, “Letters of a Russian Traveler” and other books.
