He studied at the Patrice Lumumba University of Friendship in Moscow. In March 1980, he married Marina Fedorenkova, who studied for a younger course. He graduated from the university in 1982 with three diplomas: a teacher of Russian, a translator from Spanish and a translator from Portuguese. He worked as a translator in the All-Union Trade Union, as part of a group of teachers in the Higher Party School in Angola, in the Min Rybhoz and in a vocational school in Angola. In May 1984, the couple had a daughter Katya. From 1984 to 1985 he served in the army. Upon his return, he began working for the State Television and Radio of the USSR. In 1985, the second daughter Ksenia was born. In the period from 1985 to 1991, he held the positions of editor of the Foreign Relations Service, leading commentator of the information program “120 minutes” CT, correspondent of the program “Television News Service”. Later he was a political observer of the STRK, host of the program “Vesti” (1991-1992), Moscow correspondent and commentator of the Spanish News Service of CNN, director of the Information Service of AOZT “Moscow Independent Broadcasting Corporation”, host of the program “Details” on the TV channel Russia (1993-1994), led the information and analytical program “Versions” on Channel I and NTV, talk show “Characters” (1995; REN TV"). From autumn 1996 he was the first deputy, and from May 14 to December 10, 1998 - the main producer of the Directorate of ORTV Information Programs. He led the socio-political program "Time" (1996-1999). Since September 5, 1999 - the author and host of the political show "Program" Sergey Dorenko. His son Prokhor was born on August 5, 1999. In November 1999 he was appointed Deputy General Director of JSC ORT". In September 2000 he was suspended from the air.
