Anna is from Moscow, studied at the Oriental Lyceum, later studied at the philological faculty of Moscow State University. Throughout her life, Starobinets was actively engaged in various activities, she was a simultaneous interpreter and a private tutor of the English language. After completing her studies at Moscow State University, Anna Starobinets decided to get a job in the publication “Time of News”, since then she began to actively engage in journalistic activities. During different periods she had the opportunity to work in such publications as “Gazeta.ru”, “News Time”, “Expert”, “Arguments and Facts” and “Beep”. She has worked not only as a journalist, but also as a cultural editor. Subsequently, she began to work as an employee of the magazine “Russian Reporter”.
In addition, Starobinets wrote scripts for television and cinema. Together with Vadim Sokolovsky, she had the opportunity to work on the script of a Russian fantasy film called “The Book of Masters” in 2009. Anna is married to writer Alexander Garros, the couple have a daughter.
Anna Starobinets is one of a small number of Russian authors who managed to masterfully realize their potential in the style of horror fiction. Some literary critics believe that Starobinets is much more than a Russian master in a foreign field. They believe that she is a pioneer in the style of the “new Russian horror”, and, probably, it is with Anna Starobinets that the tradition of the new Russian horror will begin.
