Anatoly Papanov was born in the Smolensk region, the city of Vyazma, October 31, 1922. The actor first appeared in the cinema in 1937, he was offered a small role in the film Lenin in October. During the repressions, Anatoly Papanov was falsely accused, and therefore he was held for a while, but in the end he was released.
During the war years, Anatoly was the commander of a platoon of anti-aircraft artillery, during the fighting near Kharkov in 1942 he was seriously wounded. The actor was only 21 years old when he became disabled in Group 3. After the war, Papanov returned to Moscow, entered GITIS at the acting faculty. In 1946, he successfully passed the exams, playing the role of young Constantine in the comedy Don Gil – Green Pants. Then he was invited to the Moscow Art Theatre, but the actor decided to leave for Klaipeda along with the entire course to create a new theater.
Working in the theater, Papanov met actress Nadezhda Karataeva, after a while the young people got married.
In 1946, he became an actor of the Kliper Drama Theatre, his first role was the role of Sergei Tyulenin in the production of “Young Guard” based on the work of Alexander Fadeev. In 1948, Anatoly Papanov moved to the Moscow Theatre of Satire, where he was invited by director Andrei Goncharov. Forty years he worked in this theater, over the years he was able to create 50 images, while some productions were even filmed.
The actor took part in the work on 70 films, including the voiceover of animated films. One of his best works is “The Diamond Hand”.
