Mark grew up and studied in California. After graduating from college, he entered the University of California. He followed in his father’s footsteps in his sports career, and in 1972-1973 he served as a quatterback on his university’s football team, eventually receiving an award from the National Football Organization. In 1974, the actor graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
For some time, Mark Harmon could not decide what industry he should work in, whether to focus on advertising or the legal industry. But before he could make a decision, he had the opportunity to engage in acting.
In 1975, he landed his first cameo roles in the television series Ambulance and Adam 12. On these films worked producer Jack Webb, who liked the actor, and he invited him in 1978 to shoot a short series “Sam”, which told about a police officer and his partner.
A year later, Mark appeared in the popular action film 240-Robert, where he played one of the main roles, and then in the film The Policewoman, as well as in the film Laverne and Shirley. Most often he was invited to the roles of doctors and police officers.
