Mathieu Kassowitz was born on August 3, 1967 in Paris, France. His father, a director, immigrated from Budapest to France during the 1956 revolution, and his mother edited films. Mathieu began acting in films early. His first role was in 1979 (12 years) in the movie “On the edge of the bench”, and in 1980 (13 years) – in the TV series for teenagers “Boom”.
Mathieu, growing up, began to try himself in directing. At the age of 26, he directed his first feature film Metis, and also starred in it himself.

His second film Hate (1995) won the prize at the Cannes Film Festival for Best Director and the Cesar Award for Best Film and Editing, as well as the European Felix Prize for Best Youth Film.
In 2000, the world-famous film Crimson Rivers was released, which became another success of Mathieu Kassowitz, now as a screenwriter. Another famous and successful film of the screenwriter is “Babylon of our era”, shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
As an actor, Mathieu Kassowitz is widely known for the film “Amelie”, as well as the films “Munich”, “The Fifth Element”, “Asterix and Obelix: Mission “Cleopatra”, “Knockout”.
However, Mathieu says that he likes the director’s work better, and as an actor, he acts to better understand the film from a director’s perspective. He continues to play roles in films. In 2000, Mathieu founded the film company MNP Enterprise, which promotes and advertises Kassowitz projects.
Mathieu Kassowitz was married to actress Julie Mado, in which daughter Carmen was born. The marriage later broke up.
