Daniel Pennack was born in 1944 in Casablanca (Morocco), in a military family. Corsican by birth. He spent his childhood and youth in garrisons in the French colonies in Africa and Southeast Asia. Pennack received his education in Nice. He worked as a wood carver, taxi driver, illustrator, for more than 25 years he was a teacher in Paris and Soissons, mostly dealing with children with developmental delays. His first literary experiments were rejected by most editors, but one leading editor sent the author a reasoned analysis of his work and advised him to improve his obvious literary gift. From 1978 to 1980, Pennack spent two years in Brazil, where he decided to write books for children. His most famous books include The Dog (1982) and The Eye of the Wolf (1984). Later, he acted as the author of political satire, and then showed interest in the detective "black series". So in 1985 appeared the novel “Cannibal happiness” – the first in a series about Benjamin Malossen, a professional “scapegoat”. It was followed by “Fairy Carbine” (1987), “Little Prose Trader” (1989), “Mr. Malossen” (1995), “Fruits of Passion” (1997), also with great skill created in the detective and humorous genre.
