Yuri Kulakov after graduating from art school came to work at the film studio "Soyuzmultfilm" as a sketch artist. Ugarov, etc. Since 1992, Yuri Kulakov began to act as a director. Among his directorial works are the films Alphabet, Julius Caesar (for the English project Shakespeare), The Creation of the World and Noah’s Ark, Beowulf (commissioned by the BBC; nominated for the EMI Film Award). Filmed for the British BBC animated film "Podna and Podni" from the cycle "Tales of the peoples of the world" was awarded the Grand Prix of the festival "Golden fish" and the first prize of the All-Russian festival of visual arts in "Orlyonka". In 2005, the full-length animated film “Prince Vladimir” was released, written and directed by Yuri Kulakov.
