Silent film actress Vera Kholodnaya (Levchenko) during her life drove her fans crazy, and after her death became a symbol of high cinema: in modern Russia there is a special prize Vera Kholodnaya, which is awarded to outstanding actors. The mysterious beauty shone during the First World War, when, it would seem, people were not up to the cinema, and yet films with the participation of Vera Vasilievna gathered full halls.
The owner of unearthly charm, earthly woman and legend, Vera was born in the family of a gymnasium teacher Vasily Andreevich Levchenko. When the girl was two years old, the family moved from Little Russia to Moscow. Faith amazed the home with its brooding, detachment, and once the sisters found her uttering a fervent monologue about sea travel addressed to listeners-dolls.
Vera adored the theater, easily and gracefully danced, but the profession of ballerina in the family was considered frivolous, so the girl had to abandon this dream. With the opinion of the family, she ceased to count when she met at her graduation ball with a beautiful and serious lawyer Vladimir Kholodny. With him, Vera danced all evening, and a few words, especially poems, were enough to make the young charmer lose her head. In 1910, Vladimir and Vera got married, and since then no one has prevented Madame Kholodna from spending evenings in her adored theater.
In 1912, the couple had a daughter Eugene, but motherhood did not turn Vera into an earthly woman, she still soared in the sky. Even the fact that after Zhenechka in the family appeared adopted daughter Nonna, did not force Vera Vasilievna to exchange their dreams for childcare. She came to the director Gardin without any invitation, asking him to try her in the role of an actress, but the exciting beauty of Cold was not the main argument: Gardin preferred experienced performers. Nevertheless, he helped Vera to get to the famous firm "Khanzhonkov and Co.", to the
director Evgeny Bauer . The result of this acquaintance was the release of two films with the participation of Cold - "Song of triumphant love" and "Flame of the sky". It was 1915.
From these two pictures until her last day, Vera was the goddess of cinema. On the account of the talented actress appeared such captivating pictures as
tape "Silence, sadness, silence" "Mirages," "Life for Life,"
Children of the Century. . They dreamed of faith, they fell in love with her, and she, although she accepted worship (one of the admirers of the Cold was a fan).
