Russian film director and screenwriter Oksana Bychkova was born in Donetsk, Ukraine, on June 18, 1972. She grew up on Sakhalin - her father was a captain of a long voyage. The family often moved around the country, so Oksana entered the University of Rostov, the Department of Journalism. After his graduation, she worked for 6 years as a journalist on the radio in the news department, and then, by chance, she entered the Higher Directorial Courses in the workshop of Peter Todorovsky in 2000.
During his training as a director, two short films by Bychkova were released – Two Sides of Glass (2001) and Three Sisters (2002). Journalism was not in vain, and Oksana Bychkova took part in writing the script for her first feature film Peter FM (2005). The debut was successful, and the film received a prize at the Vyborg Film Festival “Window to Europe”.
The experience of “creative combination” was adopted in the future. Oksana has always participated in or independently written screenplays for her films. These are "Plus One" and "Recording" (both 2008).
Oksana often invites foreign actors to participate in her films. Not for “effectual” popularity and “promotion”, but because he sees the heroes of his films exactly as these actors can play them. And when he realizes his mistake, he is not afraid to admit it and correct it. This happened during the filming of the film “Peter FM”, when Oksana Bychkova changed during the already begun filming of the famous actor Jeremy Davis (the role of a foreigner who came to St. Pererburg, a clown and puppeteer Tom Greenwood) to Jethro Skinner. In general, Oksana on the set is a real dictator. After a serious quarrel shooting “Peter FM” she completed without the main operator.
On June 9, 2011, at a press conference of the 22nd Kinotavr Open Festival, Oksana Bychkova announced her two new film projects. This is a remake of the famous film by Vadim Abdrashitov “Word for Protection” based on the script by Alexander Mindadze and “Country of Good Kids” based on the first script by Anna Starobinets. In both projects, Oksana Bychkova acts as a director and author (or co-author) of the script. /
