Mikhail Kalatozishvili is a Georgian producer and director from Tbilisi. Mikhail’s grandfather was a famous director who shot the paintings “Cranes Fly”, “Red Tent” and "Unsent letter" . His father was the director Georgy Kalatozishvili, who shot the films “Stray Bullet”, “Caucasian Prisoner” and “Death of a Philatelist”.

Mikhail studied at the directorial faculty of VGIK in 1981. Between 1985 and 1991, he worked as a director at Georgia Film Studio. Between 1994 and 2000, Kalatozishvili worked as a director at Lenfilm Studio.
In 2000, Mikhail became president of the Non-Profit Foundation for the Development and Support of National Cinema – Mikhail Kalatozov Foundation. The director was a member of the Union of Russian Cinematographers.
In 1981, while studying at VGIK, Kalatozishvili shot his debut film. It was a short film “The Mechanic” based on the novel by Andrei Platonov. In 1991, he shot the picture “The Chosen One” based on the novel by the French writer Prosper Mérime. This tape was awarded various awards. In 2000, the film “Mysteries” was filmed, which was shown at various international film festivals, including the Berlin Festival.
In the summer of 2008, the director presented his next film “Wild Field”, which received three awards for best music, best script and a special prize of the Guild of Film Critics who appreciated the film. In addition, the film received the award of the cinematic press “White Elephant”, as well as the “Golden Eagle” award in the category “Best Film of the Year”.
Kalatozishvili was the producer of the tapes “Lovitor”,
"First after God" "Captain", "Film about Mikhail Konstantinovich Kalatozov" and SOS. Michael became the director and screenwriter of the documentary “Two Atoms”.
In addition, Kalatozishvili took part in the films “Anna’s Birthday” and “Murder on the Monastery Ponds” as an actor.
In 2009, the director died of a heart attack.
