In 1944 he graduated from the theater studio of A.Y.Tayrov, after which he worked as an actor in the auxiliary staff of the Chamber Theatre. In the same year he was convicted under Article 58(a). Rehabilitated in 1953.
From 1944 to 1954 he was an actor of the Intaugol special theater (Inta, Komi ASSR). In 1954-1955 – actor of the Komi-Republican United Drama Theater (Syktyvkar). In 1955-1958 (with interruptions) – actor of the I Moscow Regional Drama Theater. In 1955 he returned to the stage of the Komi-Republican United Drama Theater, in 1958 he was an actor of the Rybinsk Drama Theater. From 1959 to 1961 he was an actor of the All-Union Tour and Concert Association “Moskconcert”. From 1962 to 1968 – actor of the Moscow Puppet Theater on Spartakovskaya. In 1968 he worked at the Moscow Regional Puppet Theatre. He subsequently worked on film contracts.
Vadim Gusev also wrote plays, mainly for children's and musical theater, pop, mass performances. His first dramaturgical experiments date back to the years of imprisonment, when he recreated works of classical theatrical repertoire from memory.
