Philip Garrel is a French screenwriter, editor, actor, producer and director. Philip followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming interested in cinematography early on. At the age of sixteen, he staged his debut film “Disputed Children”. He wrote this short film himself. Three years later, he directed his debut feature film “Marie for a Memory”.
In 1972, Garrel invited Nico to play in his film The Inner Wound. Compositions from the film were included in the album of the singer called Desertshore.

Philip followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming interested in cinematography early on. At the age of sixteen, he staged his debut film “Disputed Children”. He wrote this short film himself. Three years later, he directed his debut feature film “Marie for a Memory”.
In 1972, Garrel invited Nico to play in his film The Inner Wound. Compositions from the film were included in the album of the singer called Desertshore. The seventies turned out to be a period of experimentation for Philip, he had the opportunity to shoot underground tapes, explore different styles and be interested in the creative people around him.
In 1979, the director decided to release several plot autobiographical films in which his middle-aged alter ego tries to find his place in life, despite the unfulfilled hopes and shadows of previous novels. At the center of his films are always two lovers, struggling with endless difficulties.
In 1984, Philippe's fame rose to a new level with the award of the Cannes Festival for his painting Freedom, Night. In the nineties, Garrel enjoyed the favor of the Venice Film Festival. In 1991, he was nominated for Silver and Golden Lion for I Can't Hear Guitar Anymore, inspired by his relationship with Nico. In 1998, the director shot Catherine Deneuve in his own film “The Wind in the Night”.
In 2005, Garrell was awarded the Golden Lion for his directing work on the film Permanent Lovers. In 2011, his film
"That summer of passion" He entered the Venice Film Festival competition. In the film, the main roles were performed by Louis Garrel and the most famous actress.
