Allegre has gained a reputation as a competent and accurate master of film technique, putting his scenes with elegance. He was a great director for actors and was famous for his keen eye for spotting talent. Finding such talent he developed it and made such "stars" as Simone Simone Michel Morgan Jean-Pierre Omon Daniel Delorme Gerard Philip Jeanne Moreau and Bridget Bardot.
