(February 25, 1921 – July 4, 1993) was a famous Soviet animated director. In 1938 he graduated from the Art School of Labrenta in Smolensk, entered the courses of cartoon artists at the film studio Soyuzmultfilm and graduated in 1946. From 1947 to 1957 he worked as an animator and assistant director for Dmitry Babichenko, Valentina and Zinaida Brumberg, Lev Atamanov, Ivan Ivanov-Vano. In 1958, Kachanov, together with A. Karanovich, made his first film as a director - "The Old Man and the Crane",

From 1947 to 1957 he worked as an animator and assistant director for Dmitry Babichenko, Valentina and Zinaida Brumberg, Lev Atamanov, Ivan Ivanov-Vano.
In 1958, Kachanov, together with A. Karanovich, made his first film as a director - "The Old Man and the Crane", in 1959 with the same co-director - a thin poetic picture based on the script by Nazym Hickmet "The Cloud in Love", which received prizes at festivals in Annecy, Oberhaueen and Bucharest. Assistant work was a thing of the past and directing these two films gave him a lot of professional experience, and later he switched mainly to directing.
