Screenwriter and director Zinaida Brumberg was born on August 2, 1900 in Moscow. Zinaida is one of the Brumberg sisters who became classics of Soviet animation. Together with his sister Valentina Brumberg, they created such wonderful films as “Red Riding Hood”, “Three Fat Men”, “Missing Charter”.
"The cat in boots" and many others.
In 1949, an animated film called "Fedya Zaitsev" appeared, which was based on a children's drawing ("stick-stick-gurechik") on the school wall. In the early 60s, with the help of this wonderful “man” sister Brumberg almost “blow up” the established canon, which they themselves created. These two women have worked together all their lives.
Zinaida, compared to her swift and chaotic sister, looked restrained and slow, but was known as a great workaholic and fantastically disciplined person.
The difference, the dissimilarity of the characters was even fruitful, repeatedly playwrights and artists who worked with the sisters, said that if Valentina was immediately fascinated by a new tempting proposal, as they say, “ignited the idea”, then Zinaida, sober and stubborn, knew how to cool the ardor of her sister and correctly place accents in the new project. Screenwriter Nikolai Erdman spoke about the relationship of the sisters, that Valentina is a courtesan, goes to restaurants and she can be met on the run, and Zinaida is a homely person, calm, appreciating coziness in the house.
Cartooning for the Brumberg sisters was their work, fate, life, happiness, and they gave themselves to it completely.
The sisters were very lucky in their work, as they worked together with very interesting and talented people. These were screenwriters Mikhail Volpin, Yuri Olesha, Nikolai Erdman. Together they created an incredible, kind, sincere atmosphere at the Soyuzmultfilm studio. This team has created such different in nature films “Samoyedsky boy”, “Missing Charter”, “The Tale of King Durandai”, “Big troubles” and others.
The filmography of the Brumberg sisters includes more than forty films.
Zinaida Broomberg died on February 9, 1983.
