Born 24.9.1945 in Dubuk, Iowa. In 1967 he graduated with honors from the University of Iowa in the specialty "history" and "Latin literature". From 1969 to 1970 he served in Vietnam and Cambodia. After demobilization, he graduated from law school and worked as an assistant member of the city government in Chapel Hill, Northern California. Since 1981 he has been a professional writer.

In 1979, he published the first two author's books - a collection of the "militarist NF" "Hammer's Slammers" and a fantasy novel "The Dragon Lord"". In total, he wrote and published about four dozen books.
