Evgeny Kapitonov graduated from the Simferopol Music School named after P.I. Tchaikovsky. In 1956 he was accepted into the troupe of the Crimean Academic Drama Theater named after M. Gorky. In 1959 he moved to the Gorky Musical and Drama Theater (Gorkov region, Arzamas-16), where he worked until 1964. Season 1964-1965 Evgeny Kapitonov played on the stage of the Gorky Theatre (Sverdlovsk-44).
In 1965 he returned to Simferopol – to the troupe of the Crimean Academic Drama Theater named after M. Gorky, where he worked for more than 30 years, playing many diverse roles in the modern and classical repertoire. Among his heroes Meluzov ("Talents and fans" L. Ostrovsky, 1965), Prokhor Gromov ("Ugly River" according to Shishkov, 1969), Victor ("Warsaw Melody" L. Zorin, 1970), Steve Oblonsky ("Anna Karenina" by L. Tolstoy, 1978), Tsar Fyodor ("King Fyodor Ioannovich", 1969), Victor ("Khrot; "Bulgatov", (1980), M. & Dzhattov, & Dzhottov, (1980), M. & Dzov, & Dhov, & ), M. Here he was awarded the honorary title "Honored Artist of Ukraine", and in 1977 for the role of Ryabinin in the play "They were actors" received the State Prize of the USSR. From 1981 to 1985 and from 1996 to 2000 he taught stage speech at the Crimean Theatre School at the Academic Gorky Theatre. On the Crimean television took part in many literary and theatrical programs, starred in television performances, worked on the radio.
In the Russian State Academic Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin Evgeny Kapitonov came in 1999, already a mature master with rich stage experience. Today, Evgeny Kapitonov is in demand primarily as a comedic, sharp-character actor. It is willingly occupied in their productions by many directors who collaborate with the Alexandrinsky Theatre. For six seasons, he played twelve roles, including Yermolai ("Pair of Beds" by A. Belinsky, 2000), Dyak ("The Tale of Tsar Saltan" by A. S. Pushkin, directed by Vladimir Golub, 2000), Father Don Juan ("Don Juan" by Moliere, directed by Gennady Trostyanetsky, 2000), Shchelkanov ("Boris Godunov" directed by A. S. Pushkin, 2000), Man of Krutitsky ("On Any Wise", directed by Vladimir Fyerevsky, 2002), "Dazorevsky" Director, Vladimir Fyevsky, "Dazorov, "Vlady", directed by A. In 2007 he took part in the performance-concert "Masquerade" based on the drama by M.Y. Lermontov to the music of A.K. Glazunov, staged in the Academic Chapel of St. Petersburg (director I. Selin, musical director of the production by V. Chernushenko).
