In 1973 she graduated with a red diploma from the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography (class of professors V.V. Merkuriev and I.V. Meyerhold) and was immediately accepted into the theater troupe. Her debut on the Alexandrine stage was the role of Victoria in the romantic drama A. Stein “A Night without Stars” (1974). Light, graceful, possessing the techniques of biomechanics, the young actress was immediately introduced to the performances of the current repertoire, where she replayed many episodic roles: secretary Bozhen and a guest (“Rush Hour” by E. Stavinsky, 1974), musician (“Much noise from nothing” by U.Shakespeare, 1974), Alya Kozlov, Bride, Inostranka, Irina (“From the life of a business woman” by A.Grebnev, 1974), a young lady at the ball, dancing (“The Adventures of Chipatsikov”, 1974), a musician (“Zhrabionov, 1974), “Zhna, Zhutska,” by Zhikova, 1974),” by Zhikova, “Zhivatskogo, “Zhikova,” (“Zhiva, 1974),” (“Zhna, “Zhivatskogogogo,” (“Zhivatskogo, 1974),” by Zhivatskogogo, “Zhikov, “ One of the notable works of the actress was the role of Nastya Volnova in the drama M. Alekseev “Ivyushka not crying” (1977). And in 1979, Svetlana Sheichenko entered the play “Tales of the Old Arbat” by A. Arbuzov for the role of Viktoshi, which she played more than 100 times. The main roles of Svetlana Sheichenko was not so much, but all her roles have always been distinguished by the accuracy and grace of plastic drawing. Whether it is the characters of Soviet plays of the 1970s-80s (Asya Golikova – “The Limit of the Possible” by I. Gerasimov”, 1981; Sonya Zemskova – “The Highest Measure” by V. Arro, 1981) or classical drama (Hero – “Much Ado About Nothing” by W. Shakespeare, 1983, Anitra – “Per Gyunt” by G. Ibsen, Anfisa – “Balzaminov’s Marriage” by A. Ostrovsky, 1987). About the duet of Svetlana Sheichenko and Bruno Freundlikh in the play “Per Gunt” wrote: “The performance was traditional and sound. And here's the scene of Per and Anitra. From the tomb appeared an oriental statuette, mischievous, insidious and crafty. The scene was played with subtle humor, grace and charming eroticism. It was a duet of two masters" (A.Islentiev // "Petersburg Theatre Magazine" No. 18-19. 1999). The work that could bring the actress deserved fame was the role of Reneva in the socially acute and daring theatrical performance of Arseny Sagalchik “Let the Light Not Warm.” But the show was closed. Another major dramatic role of this period was Delphine, Baroness de Nusingen – the heroine of Honore de Balzac’s novel Father Gorio.
In the 1990s, the most striking work of the actress can be called the role of Lisa in the play by Anatoly Praudin “Woe from Wit” (1996). This Lisa was not a disenfranchised servant in the rich manor house of Famusov. The sly coquette, not inferior in female ambitions to the young lady herself, deftly dominated the entire hostess’ house, taking advantage of the favor of the sweet-hearted master.
