He was born on 21 April 1925.
A student of the legendary Boris Wolfovich Zon, Vladimir Petrov, after graduating from the Leningrad Theatre Institute, worked at the Leningrad Theatre (then the New Theatre). And with the arrival of Nikolai Pavlovich Akimov at the New Theatre, he became one of the most interesting young Akimov actors, prone to bright festive theatricality, able to express the sharp form and special style of Akimov’s productions. In the theater of the Leningrad Soviet Vladimir Petrov firmly entrenched the role of a romantic hero. Among his roles were Stepan Ryabinin ("Youth of the Fathers"), Don Carlos ("Don Carlos" F. Schiller), Martin ("Devil's Mill"), Bakhirev ("Battle on the Road"), etc. In 1957, Vladimir Vladimirovich Petrov was awarded the honorary title “Honored Artist of the RSFSR”.
In the Academic Drama Theater named after A.S.Pushkin, Vladimir Petrov came in 1961 as an already established master. And it was here that another facet of his artistic talent was revealed - Vladimir Petrov declared himself as a remarkable characteristic actor, capable of creating accurate psychological portraits of his heroes in both large and episodic roles. Love for detail, subtle detailed study of the image, instilled in the school Zone, allowed the artist to appear each time in a new unexpected quality. Among his heroes, such as:
