Creedence Clearwater Revival (sometimes abbreviated to CCR or simply Creedence) is an American rock band formed in 1967 by vocalist John Fogerty, his older brother, guitarist Tom, drummer Doug Clifford and keyboardist Stu Cook. In October 1972, the group was officially dissolved.
Creedence Clearwater Revival was preceded by The Blue Velvets, as well as several others in which John, Doug and Stu participated. Tom later joins them. In 1967, the band entered into an agreement with the label Fantasy. The band's name was changed to Creedence Clearwater Revival. The name is three unrelated words. The first - the name of Tom's girlfriend - Credence Newball, the second - is associated with environmental movements, the third indicated the rebirth of the collective.
Their debut album, Creedence Clearwater Revival, was released in 1968. The cover of "Susie Q" climbs to the 11th line of the American chart. A year later, the album “Bayou Country” appeared. The track “Proud Mary” is gaining immense popularity, the number of cover versions of the hit exceeds a hundred. The band participates in the Woodstock Festival.
In the spring of the following year, the album “Green River” was recorded, which for three weeks did not descend from the first position of the US charts. In 1970, CCR conducted a European concert tour. The album is titled "Mardi Gras".
Despite a relatively short life span of only five years, CCR along with other bands of the '70s, such as
"Nazareth," "Slade," (vocalist Ozzy Osbourne), "Aerosmith", "Deep Purple", left a significant mark on the history of rock music. The circulation of the released albums exceeds 120 million copies. Each of the seven studio records occupied worthy places in the charts of the USA and Great Britain. In 1993, the name CCR was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. / Discography 1968 - Creedence Clearwater Revival
