"Gipsy Kings" ("Jdeepsy Kings") - a musical group from France, performing compositions in the style of rumba and flamenco, organized in 1987.
Originally called Los Reyes, the band was formed in 1979 by the famous musician Jose Reyes (the band also included two sons Jose – Nicolas and Andre Reyes and Chico Buchikhi). The band performed at local concert and dance venues, attracting listeners with incendiary and romantic guitar music. In 1981, after the death of Jose Reyes, new musicians joined the group: the Bagliardo brothers Toni, Maurice, Paco and Diego, guitarists Pablo, Pachai and Canu Reyes.
In this composition, the musicians release several mini-albums, then a full-fledged collection "Luna De Fuego", but they went unnoticed by the public, and the band returns to the stage of the "local spill", performing at city holidays, festivities, weddings and just on the streets. In 1987, the band was renamed "Gipsy Kings", the soloist became Nicolas Reyes. After the musicians met with producer Claude Martinez, the group’s activities are gaining momentum: performances, recording albums and the first appearance of songs in the charts on radio stations. By 1988, the style of the band’s performance became deeper, with rhythmic intersperses, elements of pop music appeared, and Latin American motifs could be heard in some places.
In early 1988, the band's famous songs "Bamboleo" and "Djobi Djoba" were released, which became real hits for many years. In the same year, the eponymous album "Gipsy Kings" is released, which brings musicians unprecedented success and firmly occupies the top positions of the charts of European countries, having held, for example, in the charts of England for more than 40 weeks.
The most famous and beloved hits are “Magia Del Ritmo” (“Magic of Rhythm”), “Mosaique” (“Mosaic”), “Salsa de Noche” (“Night Salsa”), “Inspiration” (“Inspiration”), “Pharaon” (“Pharaoh”), “Caminando Por La Calle” (“Walk on the street”), “Volare” and others. With concert touring performances, the group visits different countries around the world, in particular, holds a grandiose show concert in the Kremlin Palace in Moscow.
