In the 60s, Yuli Kim took an active part in the dissident movement: he co-authored appeals to state authorities with the requirement not to violate human rights, wrote songs on political topics. In the 1970s, the poet paid less attention to the work of human rights defenders. Since 1974, Kim began writing plays and even played the lead role in the 1985 production of Noah and His Sons. The debut album "Fish-whale" was also recorded in 1985. In the late 80s, a record with the author's songs of the bard was released, recorded by the company "Melody". Yuli Kim occupies a worthy place in the galaxy of Russian bards along with such performers as Mityaev Oleg . The poems of Yuli Kim were included in many poetry collections. Kim is the author of more than five hundred songs, the author of the Russian translation of the musical Notre-Dame de Paris. His work is marked by many awards, including the Golden Ostap Prize, the State Prize named after Bulat Okudzhava.
In 1998, Kim became a member of the editorial board of the Jerusalem Journal, presenting new issues in Israel and Moscow. In 2006, a play in verse dedicated to the construction of the Second Temple was published.
