Officially, the year of the band’s birth can be considered 1998, the debut album “Melody A.M.” was released in 2001. Songs from Royksopp's first compilation album, "Remind Me", "Eple", "Poor Leno" and "Sparks", hit radio stations in Norway. The same year, Royksopp toured with Moby and Basement Jaxx. In 2002, for the video for the song "Remind Me", Royksopp was awarded the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Apple acquires the rights to the song "Eple", which is used as a musical accompaniment to Mac OS X Panther. In addition, T-Mobile Corporation uses the track "So Easy" in its own commercial, which brings the duo "Royksopp" additional fame.
In 2005, the album “The Understanding” was released, in which the title track was the single “Only This Moment”. In the same year, the duo took part in the music festival in Glastonbury together with Fatboy Slim, and their performances are broadcast on BBC Three. The duo "Royksopp" became famous after "Follow My Ruin" became the title track in the computer game FIFA 06. While working on their own albums, Svein and Torbjørn work with other artists to remix songs by artists such as Coldplay, Felix Da Housecat, Peter Gabriel, Beck and others. In addition, they produce young Norwegian artists, in particular, their work can be seen in the album “Anniemal” by singer Annie.
In the mix compilation 2007 called "Back To Mine" contains dance hits cover versions of famous artists from funk style to electronic tracks of the 80s of the twentieth century: here and Supermax, and Talking Heads, and Mike Oldfield. In 2010, the duo's song "It's What I Want" became the main musical theme of the computer game FIFA 10.
