Born in Novorossiysk. He graduated from the State Institute of Theatre Art named after A. V. Lunacharsky (now the Russian Academy of Theatre Art), where his teacher was Georgy Ansimov. Upon graduation, he was admitted to the Moscow Academic Operetta Theatre (now the Moscow Operetta Theatre), where he performs the leading repertoire.
In 1988 he was invited to the Bolshoi Theatre, on the stage of which he made his debut in the title part of the opera Eugene Onegin by P. Tchaikovsky.
