The boy since childhood was fond of cinema, at school he performed at all competitions in the basketball team. A very strong impression on Kevin was made by the film “Free Liver”, after watching which he certainly wanted to connect his future with the world of cinema.
In 1992, Kevin entered the Vancouver Film School, but very soon he was expelled from it. Kevin had to return to New Jersey, and he got a job as a supermarket salesman. This little experience inspired the young man to create the picture “Clerks”. The budget of the black and white film Kevin collected from his own funds, for which he even had to sell his favorite collection of comics. For the role in his film, Smith invited friends and acquaintances to minimize the costs. Clerks was first shown at the 1994 Sandes Film Festival, where it caught the attention of Miramax executives and they bought the rights to the film for $250,000. In the end, the picture, which was spent a minimum amount of money, brought profit Kevin Smith in excess of three million dollars.
In 1995, the director shot the film “Loboshakes” according to his own script. The picture is met by the viewer with a hurrah, but objectively it is slightly worse than “Clerks”. In 1997, Kevin Smith released the comedy film Chasing an Emmy. In 1999, the most famous and most successful film of the director – “Dogma”, the plot of which tells about a Catholic woman who lost her faith, but was chosen from above in order to prevent the return of two fallen angels to paradise.
Kevin works mainly with regular actors, including Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Jason Mews, Matt Damon, Jeff Anderson, Joey Lauren Adams and others.
