The future actor was born on April 4, 1960 in Nigeria. But before he was a year old, his parents moved to England. But it wasn't the last move. They traveled to Australia, South Africa and then settled in Australia. The reason for the frequent travels was my father. He worked in the computer industry. In Australia, Hugo graduated from high school and the National Institute of Dramatic Art.
His first film role was Maybe, This Time, followed by filming on the outskirts of town. In the late eighties and early nineties, Weaving had many invitations from Australian directors. At home, he was quite a famous actor and was nominated for the AFI award several times. So he could continue to act in Australia, but he was noticed in Hollywood, invited to star in the film.
The Matrix . Of course he agreed.
Since then, most people know him as Agent Smith in the film. Then there was filming in the film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. The role there was not the main, but quite noticeable - Elf Elrond. And then there were the sequels of The Matrix.
"Reboot" and
"Revolution" . By the way, during the work on “Lord of the Rings” there was a funny incident. According to the script, Elrond had to, entering the tent of Aragorn, drop the hood and make a speech. But director Jackson did not like this scene for a long time. Then, during the next take, Weaving appeared in the makeup of Agent Smith and said “Join the Matrix, Sire!” After that, the shooting could not resume for a long time. None of the actors could work seriously.
But Weaving himself prefers to work in low-budget films and plays. He now works at the Sydney Theatre. He doesn’t like Hollywood or Los Angeles. He did not even come to the awarding of the Oscar trilogy “Lord of the Rings”, as at this time he was working on the production of the play.
Hugo Weaving is married and has two children, son Harry and daughter Holly.
