In 2001, Paul Dano starred in the independent film Lies. This is a dark drama about a teenage thief from Long Island, who is grieving the split of his family. The painting received many awards. In 2004, the young actor starred in the film “Neighbor”, which also had success with the audience. In the same year, Dano worked in the thriller Taking Lives.

In March 2005, the second film by Rebecca Miller, “The Ballad of Jack and Rose”, was released, where Dano played the role of a kind of snake-tempter, charming a young girl named Rose, who lives in prison.
