He was born in a city whose former name has been erased from all maps of the world, served in intelligence while staying in a now-defunct country, and “recruited” to Russia as a Swedish agent, returning to his homeland from a foggy and mysterious abroad. Leningrad citizen, one of the “occupants” of the GDR, the heir to an intelligent family, a famous film producer and TV presenter Sam (Samuil) Klebanov is today known as one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Russia.
The fate of Klebanov has repeatedly shown its cool character. A year after graduating from the Faculty of Economic Cybernetics of the Moscow Economic and Statistical Institute, Sam immigrated to Sweden – obtaining a diploma coincided with the fateful putsch that foreshadowed the collapse of the USSR. At first, Klebanov had to be satisfied with the earnings of a tutor and gardener, but then, having settled in his new homeland, Samuel moved to the computer to, after working for some time as a programmer, found in 1996 (together with Barry Applety) his own company selling films to Russia and CIS countries.
Sam's return to the post-Soviet space was as intricate as he was - Klebanov declared himself an agent of Swedish television. As the entrepreneur himself says, cinema for him is not watching movies, but art in all its interpretations. Interest in the high and eternal was instilled in Sam from childhood: visiting various theatrical productions and exhibitions, he comprehended the science of beauty. Moreover, Samuel’s father worked in a youth amateur theater in the Rusakov House of Culture, where young Klebanov could constantly watch old silent films and classics of world cinema.
Since 2002, together with A. Mazurov, Klebanov founded the company “Cinema Without Borders”, the main direction of which is the rental of art-house cinema to Russia. With the help of his company, Sam, as a full president, promotes independent cinema of the non-Hollywood repertoire. Among the tapes demonstrated in Russia thanks to Klebanov,
"Show me love" "Idiots,"
"Run, Lola, run" Tom Tykwer, "Love Bitch,"
One missed call" and many others.
A little brutal, but very charismatic Klebanov works as a presenter on Russian channels, and after filming in five clips.
