Lee Jun Ki from the beginning of his studies in high school began to prepare for admission to college for a programmer and did not think about an acting career. Until one day a friend invited him to watch an amateur production of Hamlet, in which he participated. After watching the performance and the audience’s reaction, Jun Ki realized that this was exactly what he wanted.
But the family didn't support him. Despite his father’s beatings and bans, June Ki was still able to get permission to attend acting classes for a year, provided he continued his preparations for college. At the Academy of acting, Jun Ki made new friends, but the desire to have fun led to the fact that in a couple of months he spent all the money set aside for training. His father found out about this and, when June Ki once returned home, gave him a piggy bank, which was enough to pay for 4 months of study. This gesture made June Ki realize that he was unfair to his father. He later said he wanted to continue his studies. The father did not object, but said that the son will have to earn money and pay for his studies.
As a student, Jun Ki found a part-time job, but under Korean law, if you're under 19, you couldn't get a job officially, so he ruined his papers and forged his date of birth. While working as a waiter, June Ki tried to deposit the money as a fee for admission, but was refused everywhere. An attempt to enter the Seoul University of the Arts also failed, as it evaluated performance and play, and Jun Ki lacked experience. He had to work hard - he gave all the salary he received for dancing and acrobatics lessons. I went to auditions, but everything was unsuccessful. His father urged him to go back to school, but Jun Ki would not listen, and in the end, to try and fulfill his dream, he left home. Jun Ki came to Seoul without a specific plan. He stayed with Robert Holly, whom he met in Busan, accidentally colliding on a television and radio channel. Then June Ki wanted to learn English and they quickly became friends. They have been friends for 8 years. Having lived with Robert for 2 months, June Ki realized that he could no longer burden his friend, so he began to look for a job where he could live.
He found a place in a bar, where he made a couple to play billiards for everyone, and spent the night on the roof of the same building. But because of one unpleasant incident, the owner calculated him and forced him to leave. All the money accumulated by that time was set aside for training. On the day of his dismissal, he received several offers from Dongdaemun, but he did not have the required amount to contribute, and he refused. Not in vain, as the company turned out to be fraudulent. Through the Internet, Jun Ki found people like him who did not have the means to enter. They gathered together and prepared for exams. June Ki’s only goal was Seoul University of the Arts, and he did his best to get there. One more attempt, he told himself, and if it fails, he will return home and obey his father's demands. After the announcement of the results, June Ki saw his name on the list of applicants and immediately called his parents. After 2 years of silent disapproval, he heard praise for the first time. In parallel with his studies, Jun Ki did not give up trying to get any role, but failed after failure ... 50 auditions in a year did not yield any results. In the last company, his performance was recorded by a group with SBS Real Korea, filming a report about newcomers, and on July 27, 2001 this record was aired. The company manager gave June Ki his business card and said he would contact him. But June Ki never got a call and came to the office himself. He was able to meet the manager and talk. And after another month of waiting, a call rang and June Ki was invited to photograph for the magazine.
