In 1991, Jung Ryo Won and her family emigrated to Brisbane, Australia. In elementary school, Jung Ryo Won faced discrimination on the basis of race and language barrier, because at that time the future actress spoke very poorly in English. This prompted her to want to improve her English skills, and she now speaks it perfectly.
Starting in elementary school, Jung Ryo Won quickly adapted to the Australian lifestyle.
In the summer of 1999, the girl came to rest in Korea. On the street, a talent agent drew attention to her, suggesting that Chun try his hand in the entertainment industry. Initially, Ryo Won debuted as a singer, becoming part of the girl k-pop group “Chakra”. There were also three other girls in the group. Their first album was released in 2000.
However, a long stay in Australia affected her mentality, and it was difficult for her to adjust to the laws of the k-pop scene. In 2002, Jung Ryo Won said that she was uncomfortable wearing sexy clothes, namely short skirts and sweatshirts, during the performance.
In 2004, Chakra broke up, but Chong was slow to leave the entertainment industry. But after eleven failed auditions in one year, Ryo Won began to think that working in show business was not hers.
The situation changed in 2005, when the actress unexpectedly received an offer to star in the vampire comedy “Hi, Francesca”, and then got the lead role in the romantic series “My Name is Kim Sam-sung”, which helped her come to success. The series was very successful and earned an audience rating of 37% only in the first series, and by the end of the project received an audience rating of 50.5%. Critics praised Jung Ryo Won for his artful portrayal of a fragile but good-natured girl who fights for the love of the protagonist. This helped Jung Ryo Won to stand on a par with the most famous South Korean actresses.
Then she starred in the project “Autumn Rain”, but the series was not commercially successful. She was then invited to the project “What Star Are You?” in which she played a girl living in the mountains in Kangwon province.
A little later, Jung Ryo Won lit up on the big screen, playing the heroine with a split personality in the film “Two Faces of My Girl”. Although the project did not become a box office hit, Jung Ryo Won received an honorary award “Blue Dragon” as “Best Actress”.
In 2007, the actress published her own book called Sketchbook Ryewon, which featured her drawings, and expressed her opinion on the Christian faith. Although Jung Ryo Won has not received a specialized education in the field of fine art, she likes to express herself through drawings, doing it in her spare time. Two of her paintings were sold at auction in 2012. All funds withheld from the paintings were donated to charity.
In 2009, Jung Ryo Won starred in the first historical drama Princess Ja Myung Guo. She then played the role of hikikomori in Robinson on the Moon, which is still considered her best work.
In 2011, she appeared in two projects. In the first, she played a teacher in a small South Korean village who meets a North Korean officer in the military comedy In Love and War. In the second - a girl with hemophilia. The project was called Pain.
In 2012, Ryo Won starred in the drama The Employee. Playing one of the most unusual characters in Korean history, she enjoyed it, which she later admitted. The audience was amazed by the acting abilities of Jung Ryo Won, and the project was considered the best series of 2012.
Then the actress starred in the project “Endless Story”, which told the story of two people who were diagnosed with an incurable disease, deciding to spend the remaining days of life together.
In 2012, Ryo Won played a screenwriter in the project “King of Drama”.
In January 2013, the official website of the actress was opened, through which she shared the latest news with fans. She then began working with actor Kwon Sang Woo in the medical drama The Genius of Medicine, where she played an ambitious and charismatic thoracic surgeon.
In March 2014, the actress became a regular guest of the TV show “Art Star Korea”, in which contemporary artists come, telling about life and work.
