Aron Ralston is an American mountaineer.
Ralston graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, where he graduated as a mechanical engineer. His future should not have been extreme. But soon Aron became seriously interested in extreme sports, especially rock climbing and mountaineering. He decided to quit his job as a mechanical engineer at Intel in 2002 to climb every cliff in Colorado above 14,000 feet.
In the spring of 2003, Ralston found himself in a difficult situation. In one of the canyons of Utah, the climber had to spend five days and seven hours with his right hand, which was clamped under a boulder. A certain supply of provisions allowed Aron to be trapped for several days, but when the food and drink ran out, the climber faced a choice: stay alive or die.
Ralston managed to find a way out: he cut off his arm and, somehow overcoming the traumatic shock and the risk of serious blood loss, was able to overcome many miles in the hot sun. He wandered through the desert until he met a Dutch tourist group. They were able to call a rescue helicopter.
After this chilling incident, Aron became a frequent guest of newspapers and television. He appeared many times in various television shows and on the covers of publications. To date, Ralston for many is a model of courage, symbolizing heroism in the mountains.
In the autumn of 2004, his autobiographical work Between a Rock and a Hard Place was published in the Russian translation of 127 Hours. Between the hammer and the anvil.” In the summer of 2009, Aron married Jessica Trusty, and in February 2010 the couple had a son Leo. In 2010, based on the materials of his book, director Danny Boyle shot a feature film.
