Film director John Waters was born on April 29, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, into a Catholic family belonging to the "upper middle class". From a young age he was attracted by the spectacle of violence and blood. When he was presented with an 8-millimeter camera on his 17th birthday, he, without putting things off in a long box, together with a group of his comrades, began to make films, in which even then his desire to shock the audience was clearly manifested. Waters arranged views in a rented church basement, and the audience was invited either through friends and acquaintances, or calling from the street. Soon the press began to talk about his films, they began to be shown at night in arthouse cinemas. Fame to the director came in 1972, with the film “Pink Flamingo”. In 1981 he made Polyester, and then for several years he wrote critical articles and lectured. John Waters returned to the cinema in 1988 with the film “Hairspray”, and in 1994 in his film “Mommy is a maniac-killer”, which preserved, despite the large budget, lightness, energy and cynicism of early films, the main role was played by Kathleen Turner. A new success for Waters was the film “Photographer”, shown at the festival in Toronto and deserved praise from critics.
